Assessments for Minors/Majors, Team Formation for T-ball, Mini-minors
Hi everyone – there is important information below for Lakehill Baseball Players in the Divisions of T-Ball, Mini-Minors, Minors and Majors
Minors and Majors Families
Greetings Baseball families and welcome to a new season of Baseball at Lakehill Little League. I am touching base to let you know that we are running our assessments for players registered in Lakehill Minors and Majors Baseball on Saturday March 10th from 10 am to 1pm. Every player needs to be assessed in preparation for the draft which occurs on the 12th.
The minors players will be assessed from 10-11:30 and majors from 11:30 to 1. For minors players currently doing the winter clinics at the Songhees gym, you are welcome to attend the March 10th assessments, but it is not mandatory as the coaches have been assessing the kids since the beginning of the clinics and a formal assessment will occur on March 4th. We currently have 55 kids registered in minors so we have very solid numbers this year and we would really like to focus our attention on March 10 on the kids who are not currently in the clinics.
All Majors players need to come to the assessment on March 10 (11:30 AM - 1 PM) , regardless of whether or not they are participating in winter clinics.
The primary function of the assessment is to ensure that we have teams that are equal in ability so that teams are fairly balanced and even. Also, we need to ensure equity in pitching for each team.
Coaches will be running the stations and we ask parent and park volunteers with baseball knowledge to do the assessment so we have objective and unbiased data. Each assessor will be given a rubric, clipboard and scoring sheet along with an explanation of the process. We require at least five coaches and five parent assessors.
If you can assist in this process please let me know at lakehill.baseball@gmail.com
Location: Diamond 1 at Lakehill Little League
Stations will be:
-
Batting: in the cage
-
Pitching: the 3rd and 1st base line mounds
-
Infielding: on the infield
-
Outfield: coaches hit from 3rd base line into centre field
Players should bring: water, wear a cup (mandatory for Majors and Minors players), be rain weather ready, helmet and bat if you have one, and a glove. We ask that parents be ready to pick up their kids after an hour should we finish early (minors by 11 and majors by 12:30)

If you registered by the 28th of February, all, or most friend and coach requests will be met and any players who register after this date will be placed where there is need. In some cases, in order to balance teams numerically, requests may need to be modified, and an email has been sent that specified this. The coach co-ordinator for these two divisions is Gavin Andrew and his email is coachcoordinatorlakehill@gmail.com. You should be hearing from him sometime over Spring Break and he is responsible for organizing all the players and coaches into teams!
More to come, including information for our Mini T-Ball players! Please continue to consult the Lakehill ball web site as information on the 2018 season will continue to be posted here. Look for more information in the coming weeks by email and on the web site on park clean-up (April 7-8), team formations, uniform distribution, Opening Ceremonies (April 14), and Lakehill's 60th Anniversary party to be held on May 28th!
