Hello Lakehill Ball Families!
My name is Angela Sawyer, and I am your President of Lakehill Little League since 2016. I continue to enjoy the exciting and challenging position of serving on the Park Executive and look forward to represent you in the upcoming 2018 Season.
You may have seen me on the field last year coaching the U10 Mites in the regular season, or tossing water balloons with the Mites during some fun drills in the Summer Ball Program. You might have heard me enthusiastically cheering on our Minor Boys All-Star team while I helped out as their dugout coach and team manager during their summer tournament, or maybe you watched me pry gravel from my 3 yr olds hands during a Saturday session in Mini-tball, before getting her to line up for her sticker and treat!
Some of you may even remember me when I was a kid. A funny looking strawberry blonde constantly being accompanied to the the park by younger siblings, friends and my brown & white springer spaniel pup, Tigger. This was my gang!
Having grown up in this neighborhood with parents that loved baseball, it was only natural that I play at Lakehill, starting out with Little League T-ball in 1985 for the Huggy Bears. I continued on to play softball for Lakehill until I was 18, spending my summers practicing in the sunshine and playing in tournaments. Lakehill Softball was a force to be reckoned with back in the day! The girls were proud to bring home many pennants and trophies which are still on display in the clubhouse to this day.
My childhood revolved around ball. I loved this ball park and spent every day here during the season. If I wasn’t practicing or playing in games, I was umpiring, picking up garbage to earn concession money, riding my bike to the park with friends and watching the games that were going on. My parents were both coaches so my siblings and I practically lived at Ambassador Park from April to July!
I remember the picnics, the tournaments, the 50/50 draws, the building of the clubhouse, the ‘Cow’ lottery, hot air balloon rides...the fun! Most of all I remember the feeling of being a part of this amazing Lakehill community!
To this day, the Lakehill community is still strong and thriving! My goal this season is to engage, encourage and support the efforts of the coaches, players and families so Lakehill can enjoy another fun and successful season!
We have some exciting projects on the horizon this year. Through fundraising, sponsorships and volunteering, the Lakehill Executive is looking forward to growing our registrations, adding new equipment, providing more learning opportunities for coaches, players and umpires, acquiring a new scoreboard, improving fields and much more. These ambitious goals can only be achieved when we all pitch in and do what we can to take Lakehill to the next level!
Although our kids are technically the ones on the teams, I consider every one of us on the same team when it comes to representing Lakehill Little League & Softball. Let’s show our kids how the team dynamic really works! There will be no point system this year but a support system will be in place to ensure all volunteer duties are carried out. We are going to promote from within and see to it that we all do our part to keep things running smoothly!
Registration is now open online (credit card) and in-person registration will be offered at the park on January 27-28, and February 3-4 from 1-4 PM. (cash and cheque only). Opening ceremonies will be April 14th, details to follow.
I am very proud to represent Lakehill as your President and look forward to making the upcoming 2018 Season one of the most memorable seasons yet!
Hustle, Hit, Never Quit... Go Lakehill!
